Julian Hogan was born into a musical family, with his mother a music teacher and his father a manager of a youth symphony. Julian and his brothers Steve and Colin traveled plenty growing up, gaining exposure to music all over the world, thanks to their parent’s involvement with the East Bay ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya. That may explain their familiarity with many styles — their chops have led them to gigs in support of R&B, funk, hip-hop, and Latin artists. In particular, they’ve shared the stage with numerous acclaimed acts in the region, including Oakland soulstress Goapele, all-body music band Slammin, and the Jazz Mafia.
Julian Hogan ‘s Band, The Hogan Brothers are a jazz fusion trio based in Oakland California. Consisting of siblings Julian Hogan on drums, Steve Hogan on bass, and Colin Hogan on keys – these three share an intimate chemistry on-stage formed from their exposure to various styles of music throughout the world during their formative musical years. Their expansive sound, ranging from high-energy funk grooves to jazzy hip hop vibes, is also heavily informed by a variety of world music influences, thanks to their diverse musical education growing up in the SF Bay Area and their extensive world travels. In addition to performing regularly throughout the Bay Area club scene both as a trio and as an in-demand backing group, individually all the brothers are also highly sought after sidemen for various other projects, touring frequently on the national and international circuits.
